Due to the winter storm conditions, SEPTA will be suspending all Regional Rail, Bus, and Metro Route G1 starting at 2pm today – Sunday, January 25.

T1 service is suspended, and remaining T lines have reduced service. Metro routes L, B, D, and M will continue to run. For more information, visit https://www.septa.org/news/weather/.

Expect delays throughout the system due to weather. Please use caution during your travels as SEPTA platforms, parking lots, walkways and vehicles may be wet, slippery, or icy. Your safety is our priority.

Our crews are working around the clock to clear snow and make roadways as safe as possible. We ask residents to please stay off the roads if you can and keep cars off main streets to allow plows to do their work.

This is a significant storm, and clearing the streets will take time. We appreciate your patience and cooperation.

As we get closer to the onset of the winter storm, please ensure you are taking steps to prepare.

If you see someone in need of emergency shelter during extreme cold, call the Delaware County Homeless Outreach team at 267-671-4357. The Homeless Outreach team is available to pick people up to transport them to shelters until 10 PM tonight. If the roads become impassable, they will be unable to do pickups until the roads are safe.

The following shelters are open and have a limited number of overflow beds available in accordance with the Delaware County Cold Plan:

– Life Center of Eastern Delaware County (6310 Market Street, Upper Darby; phone: 610-734-5770)
– Salvation Army (151 W. 15th Street, Chester; phone: 610-874-0423)
– The Watkins Center (326 Watkins Avenue, Upper Darby; phone: 610-734-7652)

Please check with individual shelters about potential changes to hours of operation or with any additional questions.

Ensure you have a full tank of gas and that the exhaust is clear in case you need to use your vehicle for warmth during a power outage.

Delaware County declared a disaster emergency effective January 23-30 for Winter Storm Fern.

Before the storm begins:

• Ensure that you have enough food, drinking water, medications, and other essentials to last several days in case travel becomes difficult

• Stock up on batteries, flashlights, and a portable charger in the event of a power outage

• Do not travel during the storm unless it is an absolute necessity, especially during peak snowfall

• If it’s safe to do so, check in on neighbors to make sure they have heat, food, and any assistance they may need. Severe weather can be challenging for older adults, people with disabilities, and those living alone.

IMPORTANT: Please be prepared with a plan for the loss of power forcing you to stay in the house until travel is safe.

Delaware County encourages all residents to sign up for Delco Alert, the county’s free emergency notification system that keeps our communities informed, prepared, and safe. Delco Alert delivers essential messages straight to residents’ phones, emails, or landlines. These include Code Blue alerts that trigger the County’s Cold Plan, storm warnings, road closures, health advisories, and municipal service changes.

Due to the impending winter storm this weekend, the City is proactively shifting the trash and recycling schedule for next week:

Monday collection has been shifted to Tuesday

Tuesday collection has been shifted to Wednesday

Thursday and Friday collection will occur as usual. Both trash and recycling are still collected on the SAME-DAY.
