George E. Carter Center
Remembered as a mentor and leader for young people in the City of Chester, George Carter’s legacy now carries on at the city’s new recreation facility, the George E. Carter Center, which opened its doors this past fall in Chester’s east end at 7th & Madison Streets.
As part of an effort to expand recreational opportunities for Chester youth, the city worked diligently over the past several years to provide a new recreation center, allocating more than $2 million to make this project happen with additional funding secured through the state. With the former location for the Boys and Girls Club located off of Route 291 in an old filter treatment house, the new center now provides a better, more spacious facility and allows for safer access for Chester youth.
