Over 11,000lbs of Paper Shredded during Annual Shredding Event at Chester City Hall

(CHESTER, PA) – The city of Chester’s Department of Streets, Highways, and Public Improvements annual two-day Community Shredding event was held on Friday, March 26, and Saturday, March 27 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.

The event brought out nearly 250 residents and business owners, resulting in 11, 500 pounds of paper being shredded. “This is the 10th consecutive year that my department has been able to provide this free service to the community,” said Councilwoman Portia West. As the Director of the Streets, Highways, and Public Improvements department, West is an advocate for the shredding event. Every spring she makes it a priority. “Rain or shine, we are here, waiting for residents and business owners to take advantage. And I know many of them are happy and confident in knowing their sensitive information is being properly discarded.”

City personnel also took advantage of the free service. “There’s so much sensitive information that we accumulate over time,” said Candice Thompson, Chester City Clerk. “I look forward to this event, as do other people in City Hall. It’s a one-stop-shop that allows for us to quickly and securely get rid of tons of documents.”

For the last seven years, J&K Secure Shredding, LLC has assisted the City with this event. All information shredded during the event was delivered to a recycling facility in Delaware.
