Mayor Thaddeus Kirkland to Visit Local Schools for Reading Tour during Black History Month
(CHESTER, PA) – Mayor Thaddeus Kirkland will visit local schools in the city of Chester every Tuesday during Black History Month to read to students.
This is the second consecutive year Mayor Kirkland has chosen to read to students during the month of February. Each reading session the mayor will select a book that celebrates African American history and/or culture. “It’s important that we spend time with our children reading and having them read to us,” said Mayor Kirkland. “Since it is Black History Month, I am choosing to pick books that highlight the accomplishments of African Americans. However, outside of this month, we as adults and leaders need to make sure we are engaging with our young people and teaching them fundamental skills, like reading.”
