Go Green Initiative Partners with the City of Chester and Chester Upland School District to Host Healthy Lifestyle Family Summit and Carnival
The Go Green Initiative Uses $5000 grant from the ACME Foundation to Promote Healthy Eating and Exercise with Chester Families
CHESTER, Pennsylvania (May 1, 2017) – On Saturday, May 6, 2017, Chester families can take a school bus from their neighborhood to STEM Academy at Showalter to participate in the Chester Upland School District’s family summit and carnival. The theme is “Healthy Bodies = Healthy Minds.” Registration begins at 8:30 a.m. and the program concludes at 1:30 p.m. All participants will receive a hot breakfast and lunch, and can choose mid-morning exercise activities ranging from soccer for youth to Zumba classes for adults.
One of the highlights of the program will be a demonstration by Chester High School Culinary Arts students who will teach audience members to prepare healthy meals based on affordable, locally available ingredients. Youth Enrichment activities are being organized by Cory Long and the Making A Change Group.

“It was important to support Cory Long and the Family Summit,” says Jahlil Beats, Chester High graduate and hip hop producer signed to Jay-Z’s Roc Nation, “because we are both trying to affect the inner city youth in any way possible, whether showing example in our profession or bringing families together to interact in positive, fun activities.”

“Chester was recognized by First Lady Michelle Obama for our ‘Let’s Move’ Initiative,” says Rosetta Carter, Director of Community Health Education for the City of Chester’s Bureau of Health. “This event empowers Chester families to take charge of their health and well-being. We are delighted to bring resources from other parts of the country to support Chester.”
