Trash & Recycling Collection
- Trash and recycling collection occurs every week on your collection day. Both are collected on the SAME DAY. See Curbside Collection Map for more information.
- All trash and recycling must be INSIDE official trash and recycling carts. No loose bags will be collected.
- Place containers at the curb the night before your scheduled collection day, no earlier than 4:00 PM.
- Containers should be removed from the curb after being emptied.

Holiday Schedule
If there is a holiday on or before your collection day, your pickup will occur one day later. Trash and recycling will still be collected on the same day.

Recycling is collected on the SAME DAY as trash. Toss acceptable items ONLY into your 64-gallon recycling cart (blue lid) and put out on the same day as trash (orange lid). Please review the poster of acceptable and unacceptable recycling items. Let’s Recycle Better™ together!
Bulk Trash
Casella will collect up to 2 bulk items per week per residence on collection day. Place accepted bulk items out next to your trash and recycling carts.
- Wrap mattresses and box springs in plastic
- Accepted: Wrapped mattresses, furniture, washers, dryers, etc.
- Not Accepted: Items with air compressors, freon, or batteries

Yard Waste
Do Not Place Yard Waste with Regular Trash
Casella will collect Yard Waste twice per year – Spring and Fall collections on dates to be advertised:
- Set-Out: Use Kraft paper lawn & leaf bags only! (yard waste in plastic bags or plastic containers will not be collected).
- Limit: Up to six (6) bags per household per collection.
- Accepted Items: Leaves, garden trimmings, branches, and small shrubs.
- Not Accepted: Grass clippings, soil, rocks, or construction debris.

In addition, when leaves fall in the Fall season, please rake leaves to the curb for the City to collect.
Special Item Drop-Off Events
- Frequency: Two per year, hosted by the City (on dates advertised).
- Locations & Dates: Announced in advance on the City’s website, mobile app, and fliers.
- Eligibility: Proof of City residency required to participate.
Items Accepted at Drop-off Events:
- Tires (limit four per household)
- Appliances & white goods
- Electronics such as TVs, computers, and monitors
Hazardous Household Waste
Do Not Dispose Hazardous Household Waste in the Trash
Proper disposal of Household Hazardous Waste protects people and our environment.
Hazardous Household Waste includes paint products, household cleaners, outdoor chemicals, automotive fluids, etc.

Commercial Trash and Recycling
All commercial business and other non-residential establishments shall provide private collection of refuse (trash) and recycling by a reputable and licensed hauler.
Businesses and other non-residential establishments must participate by separating their recyclable material from their regular trash. The Commonwealth of Pennsylvania and The City of Chester mandate by law Act 101 the separation and collection of this material, as well as an annual report.
All businesses and non-residential establishments must recycle, but not limited to:
- Cartons
- Aluminum and metals
- #1 & # 2 plastic bottles and jugs
- Newspapers, magazines, telephone books, brochures and inserts (no bags do not tie in bundles)
- Corrugated cardboard and paper bags (flattened), paper towel rolls
- Greeting cards, paper, paper back books, office papers and files
- Loose metal jar lids and bottle caps
