CODE RED HEAT ALERT: July 1 - 4, 2026

07.01.26 Code Red Notification - DCHD

The Delaware County Health Department has issued a Code Red Heat Notification due to dangerously high temperatures expected Wednesday, July 1 through Saturday, July 4.

If you’re planning to celebrate the Fourth of July or attend America250 events, take extra precautions to protect yourself and those around you:

  • Stay hydrated by drinking plenty of water even if you don’t feel thirsty, and avoid alcohol and caffeinated beverages.

  • Limit time outdoors.

  • Wear lightweight, light-colored clothing, sunscreen, and a hat when outdoors.

  • Close shades / curtains.

  • Spend time in air-conditioned buildings or visit a cooling center if needed.

  • Never leave children, older adults, or pets in a parked vehicle even for a minute.

  • Check on neighbors, family members, and friends, especially older adults and those with medical conditions.

  • Know the warning signs of heat exhaustion and heat stroke. Heat stroke is a medical emergency.

Signs of Heat Stroke

If someone is showing signs of heat stroke such as confusion, loss of consciousness, or a body temperature above 103°F call 911 immediately.

Chester Cooling Stations

The City of Chester has Cooling Stations available at the following locations and times:

  1. ACCESS Center (701 Booth St) | 445-252-1084 | 7/1 from 9am – 4pm | 7/2 from 9am – 5pm

  2. Memorial Park Pool (2300 W 7th St) | FREE for residents 7/1 – 7/5 from 12pm – 6pm

Trash / Recycle Collection Early Due to Heat

Due to excessive heat, trash and recycling will be collected earlier – starting at 5:00 AM on Thursday and Friday (July 2 – 3).

Put trash and recycling carts out the NIGHT BEFORE to ensure they are collected.
