City of Chester to Distribute Free Food to Community Every Tuesday through End of June
(CHESTER, PA) – The city of Chester is pleased to announce a Free Food Distribution initiative that will bring fresh produce and milk to the community every Tuesday through the end of June.
Thanks to a partnership with Philabundance, the City was able to secure food donations to support persons experiencing food insecurity during the COVID-19 outbreak. “We saw the need of the people who are not only suffering through this pandemic but those same persons are in need of healthy food for themselves and their family,” said Mayor Thaddeus Kirkland. “Philabundance is a great organization and being able to work collaboratively with them is a win for this entire city.”
“Food insecurity has steadily increased across the region due to COVID-19, with Philabundance partner agencies reporting up to a 60% increase in need,” explained Philabundance Chief Development Officer Sara Hertz. “Philabundance is proud to partner with the city of Chester to provide quality food to community members during these trying times.”
Anyone in need should come to the Community Room entrance off of Rt. 291 to receive the food items.
Volunteers will be onsite to distribute boxes to individuals. If you are in a car, someone will place the items in your backseat or trunk. If any individual plans to arrive onsite via foot, the items will be placed on a table for you to grab-and-go.
Everyone is asked to adhere to social distancing rules and wear a mask.
