Dr. Melanie Ragin, Health Commissioner Melanie Ragin, Ph.D. was selected as Health Commissioner for the City of City in September 2007. She is responsible for disease control, promoting healthy lifestyles, and injury prevention through education and identification of hazards for all of Chester City's residents. Dr. Ragin received a Bachelor of Arts from Whittier College in 1998, and a Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.), in Pathobiology, with an emphasis on Immunology from The Pennsylvania State University in 2005. Born and raised in San Diego, California, Dr. Ragin has lived and traveled extensively domestically and in the Caribbean. |

Prior to accepting this position, Dr. Ragin received Post-Doctoral Training at the H. Lee Moffitt Cancer Center and Research Institute in Tampa, Florida, and most recently was a research fellow at The Johns Hopkins Medical Institutions, in Baltimore, Maryland, where she studied Experimental Autoimmune Myocarditis (EAM). Dr. Ragin's awards and honors include: College of Agricultural Sciences Graduate Student Travel Award, American Society for Cell Biology MARC Travel Award, Pennsylvania State University Graduate School Travel Award, Sloan Scholar, ASCB MARC Travel, AAI MARC Travel Award, MTRF Presenter and Travel Award, Graduate Student Association Academic Standard Representative, Mr. and Mrs. E. Bosworth Grier Scholarship for Excellence, and in 2007 as a research fellow at The Johns Hopkins Medical Institutions received NIH federal funding to conduct research.
