The City of Chester recognizes October as Breast Cancer Awareness Month and on Wednesday, October 22, 2008, the City held its Pink Day, with a Breast Cancer Awareness proclamation reading at 10:00 am at the regular council meeting in council chambers. Chester residents are encouraged to continue to wear pink on this day to show their support for the cause.
Breast cancer is the most common cancer among women, except for skin cancer and breast cancer is the second leading cause of cancer death in women, after lung cancer. According to the American Cancer Society, approximately 182,460 new cases of invasive female breast cancer will be diagnosed in 2008 and 1,990 new cases of male breast cancer.In support of the cause, the City raised $1,093 by selling breast cancer awareness merchandise, donating all proceeds to the Crozer Chester Regional Cancer Center .
